of its own. Apart from the renowned Portland
Bill Lighthouse there are spectacular clifftop walks, disused quarries
to explore, Portland
Museum, Rufus
and Portland
Castles and an abundance of wildlife.
For longer trips there are many stately homes and gardens to visit including
Athelhampton,
Mapperton, Kingston
Maurward and Abbotsbury,
fascinating Roman and Celtic remains in historic Dorchester
and, for the literary minded, Hardy Country and Cloud's Hill, the home
of T. E. Lawrence. Nature lovers have much to enjoy too at the several
RSPB reserves, coastal conservation areas, horseriding centres and nearby
Swannery.
